			I just repainted my steel wheels. How to remove the hubcaps with out scratching the wheels again. Does someone make a special tool in leau of using a screwdriver?

			I just noted you stated "steel wheels" so the tool, above will not work as it's for Fuchs hubcaps that have the holes. 
		
	
		
	
			
			
		
		
		
		
		
			You might try a nylon(?) auto trim removing tool. Something like this:

			I "walk" them out by hitting one side with something non-marring like a stick of wood and a hammer, then rotate the wheel 180 degrees and repeated. It takes a few wacks but they come right out/off.

I assumed his wheels are steelies with the little cover over the axle end rather than the casserole dishes. If the later and in lieu of a trim tool or a windshield bone, a plastic scraper or old credit card works. We didn't have any tools in the house where I grew up, and I know for a fact that the narrow, metal cake spatula in the cooking utensil drawer worked great to pull a cap from my dad's vw without scratching it or the wheel.
