Question Clutch cable disconnection from pedal cluster

I'm trying to disconnect the clutch cable from the pedal cluster and I can figure out how this connection works. I have a few ideas on how to get it disconnected but am not sure I could 'undo' what I have in mind if you know what I mean.

Does anyone know of a tutorial that can show the correct way to disconnect the clutch cable so I don't end up destroying it.

Start by disconnecting it at the other end.

Watch out for a grossly worn connection like this. This was how I found the clutch connection on my 33 year old, 200K mile car whose clutch cable connection had never been apart. I had to dremel it to get it apart (but I was replacing the cable anyway.)

There are plenty of threads on this. Do a search.

You have to release the pressure by disconnecting the cable at the rear. Then pull the carpet back to get at the pedal connection in the tunnel. Release the clevis and your are done.

+1, you do not want to be fighting the pressure plate to gain slack to remove the clevis at the cluster.

Sorry mate, it is the only way, if you want to save the cable short of cutting the cable if you plan to replace the cable that is.

The pedal end clevis connector is in a tight spot next to the gas pedal going into the center tunnel. Its a bit of a pain. Just unsnap the clevis and push out the pin. Putting the clevis connector back on is even more fun - ha.

Once you have done it one time, you will see what we are taking about. But the money item in this thread is the pic above of the clutch pedal "ear" and the terrible condition it gains once the small, round brass bearing "ring" dissolves to dust over time. You will need to remove the entire pedal cluster and have that area welded and re-drilled to the correct size. I caught mine in time, and have at least one spare brass bushing in my toolbox for the next go-round.

Cheap insurance.
