Correct torque value for M6 cv's

I've found m10 and m8. Can't seem to find correct torque specs for M6. Is it 30 pounds?

That is an M8 fastener.

I just looked at my allen head sockets. I have a hodgepodge grouping. There are designations on them I don't understand.

The size of the tool to turn the fastener does not dictate the size of the fastener. Your CV bolts are 8x1.25.

CV Bolts are all Grade 12.9 and the maximum recommended dry torque figures are as follows:

M10x 1.5 62lbs ft

M8 x 1.25 31 lbsft

M6 x 1.0 13 lbsft


This torque will give a preload equivalent to around 80% of the fasteners yield strength.

If you oil them with a 'standard oil' I would reduce these torque figures by around 25%.

Do yourself a favor and measure the fastener (bolt dia.) and the tool (allen). The HW6 is the designated size of the tool and has nothing to do with the size of the fastener. This also apply to sockets and wrenches.

I would be confusing if it was the other way around. If that 8x1.25 bolt had a hex head, it would typically be 12 or 13mm in wrench size. If it was a button head allen, it would be a 5mm wrench size.

So how to classify a certain bolt size? By the diameter of the threaded portion. Measure the threads on your bolts and they will be just under 8mm indicating an M8 bolt, regardless of headshape or wrench size.
