Talking Another RS30 Clone is on the road

Well the clone is on the road. I am about 85% complete but the temptation to drive is to much. I just had to take it out this weekend in between the clouds. Oh, I love fall in the Midwest.

Thanks to the board for all of the advice along the way. There are to many threads to reply to. This whole project started out over 1.5 years ago when Rich911E found this car. Through much coercion the car ended up in my driveway.

I have a few issues left.

1. The car stutters on initial hard acceleration and above 4,000 with full throttle it misfires. I installed a new coil but thanks to the rain I have not had a chance to test it out yet. I may be able to tonight. I am pretty sure this will correct it.

2. The speedometer makes a lot of noise. Above 60 it drowns out the wonderful 6 cylinder wail. I am suspecting the speedometer is dirty and I will remove it to check it out. Anyway, a speedometer is optional.

I had a similar issue with the speedo on my '69T, It made a racket that got progressively louder as speed increased. So I had North Hollywood Speedo rebuild and recalibrate it (recalibrated because of different rolling diameter of the wheels I am using).

Reinstalled speedo, and the noise is still present!!! Turns out the speedo cable was failing ( i guess ran out of lubrication) So I installed a new speedo cable and things are good now!!!

I determined the cable was bad by pulling the speedo and pulling enough of the cable through the hole so I could grab it while driving, as I accelerated I could hear the cable making a racket!

I had the same problem in my 86 S-10... not a p-car but same difference when it comes to a failed cable

It sure has come a long way from that night in Poway when it first showed up!

Good job -- can't wait to drive it at Thanksgiving?

Chris,

I hope to have enough time this fall to sort out all of the bugs. This way, when spring hits, I can get on the track and have some fun. I'll make sure I stay to the right to keep out of your way.

Keith,

THere is usually an early open track event at Gingerman every year. I'll let you know when that comes up.
