Engine shuts down

Hi. I have a 74 Targa with the 2.7. I just completed a fresh rebuild on the engine. It starts instantly and will run smooth for any where from thirty seconds to a minute and then dies. Crank it again instantly and it does the same thing. I think it must be a fuel problem but I've checked the system and everything seems fine. Any suggestions would be helpful. I am a one man team so its really hard for me to start and check everything in the short run time. I will try just about anything at this point. Sacrifice a chicken or whatever. Hope someone has some Ideas.

Are you lifting the black lever by the handbrake to richen the fuel delivery?
