what does smile attach to

I'm part way through replacing my smile (front bumper off).

I'm now trying to remove the old smile - but rust is making it difficult - in particular the 4 screws on either side that go upwards. Another thread suggested cutting back the rubber and using needle-nose vice grips on the screws.

What's not clear to me is what they are screwing into on the car body. As I dremel away at the rubber, I don't want to accidentally remove a bracket.

The new smile just has holes on either side and doesn't help me understand what it attaches to. None of the pictures I've seen show the car with the smile removed.

Thanks!

John,

Thanks - are those around a bracket or something that attaches to the car?

For the sake of clarity I'm confused about the holes circled in red.

Thanks Bob.

Any idea size of pal nuts and sheet metal screws since I'm sure mine will be destroyed taking them out.

Sorry for being dense - but the attachments for the 8 screws (on the sides) that go vertically are the same size as the 4 that go horizontally (towards the center) (and marked on the picture above)?

You have the screws that go upward into fender then you have 2 screws from inside nose where your jack goes facing forward. That's all of them. Hope this helps
