Help! - I am in need a steering rack retaining washer and rubber bushing/seal .

Hi, when I was upgrading to Turbo Tie Rods, I found the retaining washer and the rubber bushing from the steering rack in the bellows. They both go into the end of the steering rack prior to screwing the tie rod on. They keep the steering box oil from leaking out.

I lucked out obtaining a retaining washer's from a fellow Pelican's thread.
I have looked everywhere for the rubber bushing but have been unable to find one..

By chance does anyone know where I could purchase the rubber/seal bushing?... It's 40mm -> 1.5748" diamater and about 3/16th's wide...OR possibly a Pelican may have a used one in good shape? Thanks in advance

Michael

I'm in need of the same thing. Did you have any luck finding a replacement?

Thanks, Dave

Spring retainer washer.

Hi Dave, I was able to get a new spring retainer but not the rubber oil seal so I just used my original one. I know that someone like CAT has a huge supply with a variety of rubber "O' rings that would likely work...Maybe yours will still work.

I was replacing my tie rod with turbo ones and they came with 1/4" thick brass? spacer's. Because there is no power steering up until 1987, you don't need much to stop the steering racks oil from leaking. You do though need the rubber 'O' ring type washer so as to centre the rack within the housing.

Maybe if you could still use your old one combined with a flat rubber washer in-between the 1/4" spacer and the end of the rack housing, you would be able to prevent any oil from leaking..

I was able to get the retainer spring washer from Juergen.... I hope that this is of help to you.

"I got my spring retainer washer from a Finally Victory!!! After getting a friend of mine involved in Germany I was able to purchase the correct retainer ring. I still had to buy 250 PCs of them. The first 52 arrived yesterday (no need to pay postage for all 250 PCs). Took me 10 minutes to put the steering rack back together and 1 hour 35 minutes to put it back in the car. Then a nice long test drive, live is good again.
If anyone needs a ring (or 248 of them) please PM me and I will send you my mailing address. Then send me a self addressed envelope with postage on it and for every $1 bill I find in the envelope I will send you one ring." - unquote,
