Best air-cooled 911 mechanic in LA?

I may be moving back to Los Angeles soon.. any recommendations as far as the best shop in the city to service my 3.2L Carrera?

Lots of threads on this (one by me)..

Depends where in LA you are. Some guys in the valley (TRE motorsports as an example) more in the OC area, and a couple in west LA.

Do a quick search on this forum and you'll find a tone of reponses and feedback.

Happy hunting!

If I needed a shop I would drive two hours to TRE. Sounds like you're closer.

Callas Rennsport

Tony Callas at Callas Rennsport in Torrance is GREAT! He knows these cars incredibly well, has an equally well trained staff, and really delivers outstanding service. He isn't cheap, but his extensive knowledge can often save time on complex jobs. He's taken splendid care of both my '77 911S and my 996 C4.

The shop is very busy, so you may have to wait to get an appointment. Tom will probably answer the phone, and he'll do his best to make time for your issue. As a bonus, Tony almost always has something very rare and interesting in the shop when you come by.

How about Redline in Santa Monica? Or if you're willing to venture to the Valley, TRE is in Van Nuys and TLG is in N. Hollywood. Callas is in Torrance. Those are the names that come up most often in the metro LA area.

I go to TLG but TRE is good as well. TRE seems to do more car conversions while TLG does resoration and general service.

Seems like you cant throw a rock in LA without hitting a good Porsche shop. Definitely much more dense than anywhere else.

If you are moving near Fullerton, give Aase a look. They did my PPI. It was a good experience and they have an impressive shop

Some pics of the shop in my intro thread: Introduction: 1985 Iris Blue M491 911

Since June 2001 - people talk - you hear things. Bought my rollbar from TRE as well as a few other things - several discussions over the years with Dave - some involved the exchange of money - had redline look at a car years ago for me (I passed) . Marco knows his stuff - inside and out... I can also give you a list of people I've been screwed over by in my years of Porsche Ownership too if you want - funny - but never been screwed over by a Porsche individual enthusiast - only "self proclaimed" Porsche institutions.

It's an embarrassment of riches for Porsche enthusiasts in So Cal. The ones I know and trust:

TRE (Van Nuys) - It's where I take my '87 and you can't pick up any Porsche magazine without seeing their name on an interesting build. They seem to have their fingers in all the reall cool stuff. Good people to deal with.

TLG (North Hollywood) - VERY well respected. The only reason I don't go there is that TRE is closer and I'm used to them.

Callas Rennsport (Torrance) - The preferred choice for my friends in the south bay area.

Foreign Sport Technician (Santa Monica) - Claudio and Paul do a lot of Ferraris, Lambos, Porshces, etc. They were the only place I'd take my Boxster (highly modified), before I moved to the valley. A small family-run shop, but very knowledgeable and reasonable rates.

Inland Valley, as in Rancho Cucamonga area? If so, GAS and 911 Design are in your neighborhood. I have no personal experience with either, but both have great reputations.

Sergio Nardi at GameFace is probably one of the closests besides AASE both in East Orange County.

Heck, if you are willing to learn I am willing to share but you have to drive to San Pedro.

But leave the hardstuff to the experts, TRE, Callas, Redline, AASE, Gameface.

+1 TRE (Van Nuys) - if you will be modding
Aurel & Don's (North Hollywood) - for vintage, Seinfeld takes his Porsches here
