Thank you Bill for pointing out the actual true about what tire sizes were designed for what rim width/ You are absolutely correct, and people tend to ignore the fact that the side walls play A big part in not only handling, but safety, and stretching buy putting on a rim to wide or bulging, by using a rim to narrow, while some think it looks cool, is not the proper or size and not designed for most of our styles of driving.
I have both 8s &9s, currently running 7&8X16s with 205/50/16s & 225/50/16s, this choice was based on a couple of things, one being tires available at the time (needed then in a day) the other, we get a lot of rainy weather in FL, and I switch back & forth with daily drivers and the 225s on 8 are less likely to hydroplane if I get caught in the rain.
