Window Regulator
I just finished reassembling my doors and window components and having a problem with the drivers window. Seems there is a lot of play in the drivers side as it rolls up with no issues, but when rolling down, the window the play in the unit causes the window to tilt forward and bind. I played with it adjusted it and the window frame any number of 100 ways, and no real improvement. It is the original 1976 regulator.
I do have a newer window regulator and power motor, and I guess I could wire that up, but I'd like to keep it manual. I was wondering if I could convert the power regulator to manual?

Is the pivot spring retainer still intact? I know they break on electric windows and cause the same symptoms your having. Not sure if manual windows have a spring retainer but if they do that might be your problem

Is the glass secure in its channel. I am in the middle of repairing mine because the glass pulled out of the channel and wouldn't go down.

As far as I can tell the glass is secure in its channel and the plastic spring retainers/sliders show no more wear than the ones on the passenger side. The window dips down in the front when rolled down and then gets trapped in the channel. A slight amount of pressure on the back of the window makes it go down no problem, and up is fine too. I will look at it again this weekend, but was wondering about just swapping in the power window regulator. I'd prefer to pull the motor off and bolt in the manual gear, but not sure if that is a possibility.
