3.6 Oil Coolers

Hoping for some help. I may be getting this oil cooler. I am concerned that it may be too small. It measures 23x5.5x2. It looks like an older B&B. Any thoughts wold be appreciated. Thanks.

It does sort of look like a B&B

I have a B&B in my Ruf bumper, it's a perfect fit and is the only cooler I run.
5 1/2 X 2 1/4 X 20

It has worked great for street use since 1994 w/ both 3.6 and 3.8. You would want a larger one or an additional cooler or 2 in the fenders for track use.

I have 2 huge Setrabs in my 993 track car w/ great gobs of unrestricted air funneled to them, they work great but it does warm a bit on really hot days

Thanks Bill. It looks like it may be on the small side. What about combining it with a fender cooler?

I use a BAT INC. They are on the web. I have an extra set of mounts if you need them.

As long as you have a functioning T/P valve you can always add another cooler in the fenders or just use 2x fender mounts like Elephant sells

A B&B will have tabs at the top for mounting and a drain plug in the bottom(at least mine does, if those are missing you may have a Mazda cooler which has I/O ports which are too small

What will you be using the car for? Where do you live? If street driving, I would see if you could put a fan or two on there if you're stuck in traffic or at a light in the summer. I wonder if a fender cooler and some enlarged bumper inlets would be enough.

The Mazda coolers are a great bargain BUT you must have a real ace welder to put larger fittings on it.
Not sure why this isn't much more popular.

I used similar-sized B&B cooler on my SC with 3.6 transplant, with SPAL fans and 190-degree thermo-switch. I have experienced 185-215 oil temps normal driving year-round. The fans rarely run, only when sitting in traffic on hot Summer day.
No track time yet......coming soon I hope.

That looks like a good center cooler candidate. Be sure to have some kind of history on its use, or else pay to have it ultrasonically cleaned. You don't want a cooler that's been contaminated with crud that will slowly release it to your engine and mess up your bearings.

Also take a look thru the cooling fins. Old coolers get clogged with dirt & tiny rocks & bits of tire rubber & bugs. If you back-blow it with compressed air, you'd be shocked how much crap it will spit out (and not spit out).

Will definitely do a ultrasonic clean. If too small (roughly 253 inches squared), the cooling volume could dramatically increased with a moderately sized fender cooler. This addition would give more surface area and oil volume than a Setrab 172.

Thanks to all who contributed, it is really appreciated.

Does not look like Mazda, not sure though. The Mazda coolers that I found online have 8 rows. This one has ten.

PDtweeksthat is very nice ductwork and fan, neatly done.

I traded the cooler for some parts, it is now in my garage. I should have posted a picture of the mounting tabs;
