Pelican Parts Okay, he're what I want to do...

I think that this will be the overall plan. Instead of spending $XX,XXX.XX on a new truck, I came up with this idea:

Sell the 911SC (the one featured in 101 Projects) and the 356 (and possibly the 944, although it's not running right now). With the funds and garage space from the sale of these, then buy an early 1969-73 T chassis (or car with a busted engine) and create an RS-clone out of it. Install a 993 3.6 engine perhaps with a TEC-3 system. This car would then be a keeper.

Total costs on this car would probably be around $20-$25K, if I don't go overboard. It would be similar to Jack Olsen's car, and like Jack's car, probably a bit more raw fun than a 993...

Any thoughts?

-Wayne

Is that your idea of fun? Driving a gorgeous, lightweight, high-horsepower car that's capable of running circles around just about anything else on the road? You're sick, Wayne.

other peoples money

Install a 993 3.6 engine perhaps with a TEC-3 system

a few magic letters and

Install a 993 3.6 TT engine perhaps with a MOTEC system

There, that looks a lot faster.

Smile Re: Okay, he're what I want to do...

Sounds familiar. Took an abused 1980 Euro (no heavy sun roof or a/c). Gutted it and installed lightweight carpet and racing seats, short shifter, turbo tie rods, fiberglass bumpers and spoiler, torsion bars etc etc. Had some money toward a 3.6 and put it in the market about a year and half ago. Well, it will be a bit longer before I get the 3.6. Car's still fun to drive!

Hmmm, I think I'd have to have the car you mentioned you want to build in addition to a RUF Yellowbird replica with a 3.6TT with around 600rwhp and then I'd die a happy man

later,

amir

Evidently, you don't need a truck? I loved the old John D. MacDonald "Travis McGee" novels. Anybody on this board remember what Travis drove? Okay, because of his young age, I'll allow Jack to answer as well. But as a writing pro, perhaps he should disqualify himself.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Nothing wrong w/ a stock(chipped ) Motronic though. The $$ would be better spent on 993 RS or 993 SS cams & Arp/Raceware hardware.

Good idea. get an early tub, dip it, then do all the expected reinforcement and suspension work. Install glass quarters, hood, deck lid, doors, and roof.

Install a rad 3.8 w/9200 rpm redline.. and a short gear box w/ a guard dif.

The Tec 2-3 are a pain in the balls to program....haltech is good and very user friendly for your engine management.

It will be a blast to drive....... and could spank some other cars on the track.

Oops ive done all that to my car except for the 3.8

Yeah - I'd like to do that too. Hmm, sell my '87, then...

Question: If you are considering doing glass bumpers and/or fenders, hood, what's the benefit of an early tub? Seems to me there would be more mid-year galv tubs that would be less expensive than the increasingly rare early bodies. Or is the 73 model for the smog exemption key? Do the early bodies really weigh that much less (and again, does it matter if you start putting glass components on...)? Thx.

Don,

my '69T scaled at 2185 when it left the factory

The doors on my car weigh #130 for the pair, the replacement glass doors are about #16

the front fenders weigh #28 and #23 respectively. the glass replacements are #6 each

I took about 40 lbs of goo out of the car when i wire wheeled the inner fender wells.

Im hoping my car weighs less than #1850 when I am done. When I get to know my new and improved chassis, ill stick a big ole 3 point something behind me.

You go Wayne...

Id like to ride in Jacks car, I wonder if the 3.6 cost is worth the power, seems like a hot rod 3.0 would be easier, maybe not that much cheaper though. I think about Jacks car alot and wonder if it almost has too much power? (Yahh right)

I still want to keep my 914. I have a whole collection of cool parts for it. Anything more than the 2.7 I have for the 914 might be a bit too much HP for the 914 - without radically strengthening the chassis.

I doubt that I would ever find a car close to the one I would like to build - otherwise I might consider buying it...

I think you have a very good plan, there. I'm very happy with my bone-stock 3.6 setup, but I need reliablilty, because I don't own a parts business.

With the wave of recent transplants, I think it's just about time to start a 3.6-swap Registry. In their own way, they're the last-and-best expression of the normally-aspirated Porsche road car.

(Of course, I'm in a good mood, because my car was just called 'brutally fast' in Autoweek. )

YES!!!! Wayne Do it!.... and post all the work on the forum w/ photos on a step by step transormation of the car. and detailed swap information. Please do it Wayne I would love to do this my self but don't have the cash to do it so I will have to live thru you until I can do this myself.. but I am going to start with a 78SC tub and strip it down and build it back up. Please Wayne YOU HAVE A GREAT IDEA!! A monster 911!
I wish I could it, but I have to wait a while to get some cash!! then the world will see what the all mighty 911 can do once I create my BEAST! I will restore the world belief in PORSCHE being a TRUE sports car marque.

Wayne, why not backdate the SC? If the car is straight and solid, seems like a good platform to work on. Curt's '87 w/3.6 is a good model.
