Purchased New Handbrake Handle - Now What Glue to Use

I got a new handbrake handle for my '87. The original one had been cut off and an aftermarket leather sleeve was put on that includes the handle. As I'm returning to stock, I bought a new handle, and it needs to be glued onto the handbrake itself.

What kind of glue should I use? Will the black 3M weatherstripping glue work? Or do I use something beefier, like construction adhesive?

So was #8 cut? Because normally you would use #40 to keep handle #41 in place.

Hi Jim. No, the button, #40, goes through the hole in #41. The handle remains stationary when you push the button, which compresses spring #37, which moves #14 and therefore #15, thereby letting the handle ratchet.

There is yellow glue residue all over the end of the brake from when the original handle was cut off.

Huh - no glue required. Plenty of resistance for a tight friction fit. It's always pleasantly surprising when a job becomes EASIER than what you anticipate.

Yeap, just like mine. I just screwed the button in and it stayed in place. No Glue Required
