Mystery key hole

After owning my 1988 Carrera Cabriolet for a number of years, I found this mystery key hole on the driver door jamb, the place where service stickers are usually attached just by chance. Has anybody got any idea what it is for ? For some reason I am unable to upload pictures, will try again later.

Years and youve never looked at the door jam?

The original owners manual discusses this alarm system. It uses a separate key, so perhaps you have any extra key with the car that you didn't know what it was for?

Not to hijack the thread but over the years it seems my alarm key has disappeared. Can you replace the alarm lock cylinder and have a new key or is it just not that easy?

Jlr69s,

If you remove the lock you could find another that fits and I assume it is just a switch with two terminals or take it to a locksmith to cut a new key or change the barrel with a new key.

Cheers

Bill

The factory key is not in the door jamb, it's on the back edge of the door itself.

If it's on the jamb, it may be aftermarket.

In order to prevent theft bypass, these components
must be detected by the alarm CKT.

......thank you for all the reply. I described the location of the key hole poorly: it is in the door, facing the jamb when closed.
The car came with a factory installed alarm that I was not aware of. There where no extra keys when I got the car from the previous owner.
Will try to upload pictures again.

PS: No luck with the pictures, but I got it now wth the help of all that responded, thanks again.

You may have to visit the dealer for a replacement key.

But first, try another P-Car owner's key.

Good luck,

Gerry
