I'm adjusting the valves on my 1978 SC for the first time and have gotten to #4...In my book (Porsche 911 SC service manual from Bentley) it says TDC is the mark on the right most of the two close marks on the crank pulley wheel, the other being the timing mark. Below is a picture of the book...(Image is reversed...the Z1 mark is on the right side)

Nervermind I used an endoscope to look at the casting marks on the face of the crank pulley. The leftmost mark is Z1 and the other mark, to the right says 5.

they are close enough that it does not matter.
