Engine bucking
Hello:
When I drive at low speed and low rpms and stop pushing the gas pedal of my 86 Carrera 3.2 , the engine abruptly and mildly "retains" and "buckles". I am not sure if those are the correct word, since english is not my first language. I just changed the idle position switch and took advantage to clean and refurbished my AFM. That did not solve things. Is that normal? Any ideas? Thanks, |

Do you have a stock chip or upgraded one?
When you wrote refurbished AFM, what did you do? After she is hot during the day all electronics off, what is the idle at? Remember, there is no Zero RPMs on the tach, it starts at 200,400,600, 800 then 1000

I have those symptoms as well. I suspect vacuum leaks but have not been able to confirm. Could this be the infamous 3.2 sucked intake manifold gaskets?

Stock chip tends to buck in the parking lot at low speeds if all is good with the car.

Hi:
I bought the car two months ago and I installed a SW chip. The idle is perfect at 880 rpm. I open the black plastic box of the AFM and moved that rotating sensor "south" on the black metallic track. |

Oh my, you may have found your issue.
Why did you tamper with the AFM, was it giving you problems? Do you mean the Potentiometer arm? You may have damaged the AFM. Try to find another member with a 3.2 and place your AFM on their car and see if you can repeat the symptoms.

No, the car was doing that since I bought it. I just tried that to see if it worked. It did not but did not make things worse either.
I guess it may be normal since you mention it does that at low speed, "in the parking lot" |

Okay
So when you say it bucks, how low of a rpm is it when she starts to buck? You really should not allow your car to lug, push in your clutch when you go too slow
