'82 SC - Defroster not working
I have an '82 SC that works great except for the defroster. The levers on the dash work just fine - bottom two to the right and upper fan on to the right and it blows cold air. I lift the heater levers between the seats and the vents on the sides (small slits near the the doors lower on the front of the dash) and heat comes out these small slits.
However, no matter how I adjust the levers on the dash, I can't get hot, or even warm, air to blow up via the defrost. I only get cold air. Any thoughts? If there are some baffles that are stuck, how do I go about fixing them? If it's a matter of defrost or small side vents, I'll take defrost any day. Thanks Jim |

I couldn't get my defrost to work last night either. I'm suspecting that there is an aux. heater blower circuit to have failed (fuse, wire, motor, etc.). I do get heat from the floor but not the defrost.

You don't need the aux blower running to get defrost heat. There are flapper boxes located in the trunk, just underneath the windshield. You have to remove the trunk carpet, and that fiberboard piece to get to them. There are cables from the heat control panel that attach to these flapper boxes. You'll need to check that those cables are still attached, and that they are adjusted correctly.

Thank you, I'll get into the trunk and check the cables and flappers.

So I'm disassembling everything and pulling carpet. Inside the cabin, I remove the "dryer" hoses from the splitter on the floor to behind the dash.
All of a sudden, I drop my screwdriver into the heater hole at the bottom of the driver door. Needless to say, I can't get it out. Is this going to cause me problems other than a possible rattle? Any thoughts on how to get this out? Thanks Jim |
