... I'd be screwed. Thank you to Don Wise at CT Automotive in Campbell, CA for spotting horrendous rust damage and probably saving me thousands of dollars. I was "courting" a 1974 Targa for a few weeks prior. Everything seemed to be sound, just needed the PPI to make sure the engine was in order. Well, Don never got to the engine. Once it went up on the lift, he was able to spot that the front end had nearly rusted the suspension free from car. In fact, he described it as "dangerous", and wouldn't even let his tech drive it. The rust came down from the battery compartment under the hood. I do feel badly for the previous owner, as he never got a PPI and had no idea that he owned a time bomb.
Anyways, thanks for all the great advice on this board. I'm back to the drawing board as far as my first Porsche purchase. Don Wise recommends an SC, but that may break my modest budget for now. Thanks, Alan |

don't get too bummed...there are sound 2.7 cars out there for not a ton of money. Remember that part of the fun is the hunt. And on the plus side, you have another particular thing to look for when checking out your next car.

I found a 914 years ago and brought it in for a PPI. The shop found the vin number on the door jamb and under the hood didn't match. The car had been hit hard, and a whole new front clip was welded on. I took a pass too...
