Need headlight relay wiring help

Ok, got my headlights fixed. Turned out to be a fried signal lever.
Now i want to make sure this never happens again.

I bought a pair of relays from pelican, but am not totally sure how to go about wiring them.

I was under the impression that you only needed two relays.... one for the low beams, and one for the high beams.

I did a search on the topic and found a couple threads on the topic, but the diagrams I've found show a total of four relays... two for each headlight??? Is this necessary? It sounds a little overkill.


Does anyone have a link to a good diagram that i could use to wire these suckers up???

When I went about rewiring mine, I bought 2 relays planning to take care of both high & low circuits.

Then I found out that each high and low circuit was fused independently. I figured that if Dr. Porsche wired them independently, I should follow his lead. So I used the relays for the 100w Highs, and left the 55w low circuits as is.

I would tell you how I wired them up, but I have two batteries and used both of them. You SC guys wouldnt know what to do with all that power.

What's this about Carrera owners and goats? Or was it sheep?

Yes you can just put one relay on the lows and one on the highs. That's what I'm running.

Dr. Static..good post, and the current on stock headlights is great for those type relays..I think they are 30 amp..but if pwd72s goes to " heavy candlepower " he may want to use 75 amp Bosch relays w/big contacts... Leland knows this..he and Paul saw my relays........Ron

I'm with you Ron. I'm running stock H4s, so I feel OK with the Sucro kit. If I ever put some rally lights in (mmmm, rally), I assume I'd have to rethink the setup.

I need more "oomph" from my headlights.

to tell you the truth I don't really know. It was the first night drive after I got the car where the switch smoked. I can say that I find the stock H4 lights to provide plenty of light...no complaints. Don't know if the the relays are responsible, but it can't hurt to take quite a bit of wire and switches out of the circuit path from battery to headlight.

In a rally car with BIG candle power. EVERY light has its own relay.
Seems the last car I worked on had eight relays. All lined up next to the radiator. ( Rod Millen, built car )
