Puzzling Heater Question

Hi guys. I've got a good one for you... My footwell heater blower fans on my '88 Carrera are acting really strange. When I pull the heater levers, they activate for about 3 seconds then quit. I thought it was time to lube the shafts and/or replace them, so I removed and tested them on a seperate power source....they run strong with no problem...put them back in...same thing, run for a few seconds then stop. I checked the fuses and the heater relay in the front...no problem. I used a test light on the power source for the fans, and I get power for just a few seconds, then power goes out, so I know it is not the fans.

The car has one of those goofy center switch dials to adjust the fan speed, but no matter what setting, power only lasts for a few seconds.

Anyone ever experienced this or any ideas on the source of the problem?

the engine mounted heater booster fan must first work for the kick panel fans to function. it's how the relay was designed. so see if it does.

John - the rear blower works fine, runs strong.

Other thoughts?
