Found a 993 Engine with No DME or Wiring...
I found a 95 993 engine that looks really clean, but has no DME or wiring harness from the DME to the engine. Has engine wiring harness.
Seems as if the harness and the DME are $3k or so, so that's giving me pause. The motor is $8500. Is that steep for a motor minus the harness and DME?

Both the DME and wiring harnesses are available from ebay and many of the Porsche dismantlers for around $1,000. Personally, if this is for an earlier chassis I like a more period correct look and would go with either stack EFI or carbs. Like this:

$8500 for a non-running engine! I would be a bit worried. But if the long block checks out, seems like a great time to go EFI/Megasquirt.

What do you know about motor? Was it in a running car? I'd minimally do a leakdown test.
Carbs vs Megasquirt vs stock..... depends on the chassis, use of the car, and how much fiddling & reliability are important to you. |

with performance, but the civility, reliability and "lack of fiddling" are the BEST things about it. Gas mileage is also very good. I wonder what kind of MPG a PMO carb equipped 3.6 will achieve? MPG may not be important to the "strictly performance" folks, but it is to me!

To hell with mileage, a 3.6 would rock his world with EFI or carbs

At today's gas prices, not on a daily driver like mine!! The incrimental amount of horsepower isn't worth the cost of fuel, plus the substantial expense of MFI or carbs.
If I want real go fast, I'll get a 300-400 HP water pumper. Just my $.02 from a happy camper!

You can buy a stand alone EMS, and be done with it, depending on what you want, prices go from as little as 800 to over 3500.
This days, en engine missing the OEM ECU is not that big of a deal. |

Don't do carbs.....get a good EFI system like MoTec, Haltech, or DTA with some ITB's from PMO.

I'll bet the Dismantlers wouldn't sell it for 8500.
