where to find good VIN decoder

Guys,

Where can i find a good VIN decoder for late ('86) 911's

the only one i was able to find had trouble with the VIN i was feeding it. I didn't say invalid VIN, but it said it did not understand it. I'm not sure if the VIN the seller gave me is not correct, or the decoder is not reading it right.

thanks,
Mike

All 1981+ 911 VIN's start with "WPO", which stands for "World Production Order". However, there are no O's, Q's or I's in US VIN numbers. So, I would try running the VIN again, and change the O to a 0 (zero), and see if it goes through. BTW, what "decoder" are you using?

Also, if you email me the VIN, I will run it through Carfax for you.

This is the vin decoder i was using:

Thanks for the link steve, I think i have figured out that the car i am looking at is a 1986 "turbo look" targa. The site you referred me to does not appear to be completely correct, all three entries referring to U.S. "turbo look" cars all have a missing digit in their VIN's they only publish 16 digits, and as we all know late VIN's have 17. To i'm still confused. I've verified my VIN with the math formula for the check digit, so the VIN is good.

Eric,

I'll email you the VIN, thanks a bunch.

Mike
