It is called a pivot pin. They come in 4 distinct configurations. Our host carries them.

If you do a search for pivot pin you will find lots of info in how they work and how to replace.

I thought the pivot pin was the part shown inside the spring, I'm talking about the piece that goes where the hole is?

That is the one that breaks and ends up rattling around in the bottom of the door. Measure the length and note if the flats are parallel or perpendicular to the slot. You can order at the link listed above by McLaren-TAG. The outer end of the helper spring is held in the slot. Both of mine broke and the windows go up more slowly without full tension on the helper spring.

Here's how I fixed mine. My window regulator spring retainer, slow power window fix.

There are several threads on cheap to no cost fixes if you have a bolt selection. There is a link in my thread to another thread on how to fix.

I read the thread fixing it using a bolt and coupler but my spring is so strong I can't even wind it back to get over the nut even with pliers,no wonder that piece of pot metal broke, that's just poor design.

I used a scrap piece of copper tubing for leverage, although I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives.

You can buy a threaded piece of one inch length bar stock (hexaganol) from ace hardware that works even better. its in that section with all the nuts and screw drawers. locktite it on with the permenant stuff.

Poor design? It lasted 35 years!

I had a smaller pair of vise grips that I grabbed the end of the spring with. I wound it past where it should be and installed the bolt. It's really not that hard.
