Early 911 power window regulator removal, help!

Can anyone point me to a step by step guide on how to remove the regulator from an early ('72) 911? There is lots of information regarding the '74 and later, but I can't seem to find anything for early cars. I understand that it is somewhat different. I'm taking everything out of the door. My regulator frame/housing is cracked right where the small gear is located. I figured I'd also use this an an opportunity to replace all the rubber/felt in the frame as well. What a PITA!

Thanks.
Roger

I got it out...

Now I need to find a new regulator gearbox.

Where to find a regulator gearbox?

Any suggestions where to find one of these? I checked Pelican and Stoddard, nada. Googled, and didn't come up with much. It appears to be the same part as on some early Mercedes. Maybe that's the best way to go.

Also, anyone know if I could install a later style regulator and motor in my early style door? There seems to be plenty of those available.

Roger

I installed early manual cranks (SWB) on the doors of my SC.

Mounting points were the same. I had to replace the rail in the glass from the modern rail in the SC to the older on the SWB. . That was the only noticeable difference.

Also modern cranks have an extra guide in the bottom of the door that early cars don't have. So you would have to drill holes for this. There is thread with information for this.

I went the other way around but I think your project is doable.

Yes, I have a feeling this is the way to go. It appears that the regulator gearbox is not available by itself, only as part of the entire regulator mechanism, which sells for over $1000 new (insane). I haven't researched it a ton, but I can see that the motor is clearly different, and appears to connect to the regulator with a longer drive cable. I'll start digging more down this path.

Thanks.
Roger

I'll check the storage unit for the complete regulator if I can find it you can have it.

No promises

Very kind of you. It's the passenger side (if I didn't mention that). Also, if the one you have is the driver's side, I believe the gearbox unit is the same. It just unbolts with three bolts from the rest of the regulator.

Thanks.
