HELP! Targa Top - Locating Pin Issue

Hi Guys,
Doing bunch of targa top projects (rec'd new front seal from Dan @Cars Inc, replaced worn/missing rear pin covers) and rec'd 2 new front pins. First pin took 2 minutes to remove/replace as expected....but of course the second pin has turned into a f-ng mess. Didn't feel right coming out but since pin was in bad shape and bent...decided to keep going and if need be...replace the nut.

When pin was installed previously.... it was cross threaded (and I can see how easy this can happen. Can't believe the pin threads are steel but the nut is ALUMINUM!!! WHY????

Ordered new nut from our host...had carefully taken top parts off to install new nut. Assumed the the nut went in from one side of the four sided recess capturing the nut...but from what I see.. looks like the nut drops into the recess from top.... before top cover materials are installed??

Am I missing something?? How do you get the nut out??
I can't believe removing a section of the entire cover is required to remove/replace this locator pin nut???? If so....I may have to do some kind nut rework as plan B???

Any ideas...suggestions....appreciated.

Thanks-JT

I had a similar issue with mine. I took it to an upholsterer and had them unstich the top just enough to replace the pin, and then they sewed it up for me. What was difficult for me, was a piece of cake for them

Thanks Jim,

Did you open the seam 3-4 inches along the front edge......by the pin......enough to get your hand in to drop in a new nut??? Then had them sew it up for you?

What did they charge you for that?

Thanks,
JT

here is something that might help end your frustration. My newly restored top from Cars Inc would not install on my car. I could not get on of the pins to locate the hole properly. By measuring diagonally across points from windshield to targa, I found that my car was off 1/4" from true. Discussing this with Dan, he suggested to just take the pin out and the top works fine.
