Coated Zimmerman brake rotors no need to paint?

Was going to apply some high temp paint over the rust prone areas but seems I don't need to. Can someone confirm? Thank You, Wil

Huh? Paint on rotors?

I can't tell if this is a joke, confusion about painting calipers, or just insane.

The hub portion of the rotors. They rust overtime. I see people apply high temp paint over them.

You can only paint the sides, but why bother?

Because we don't like to see rusted rotor hubs through the wheel spokes. The coated zimmermans don't really need it.

You can paint the hats, but that seems to be a major waste of time.
The hats don't rush since they have the coating. The rotors will rust since the steel is exposed to the elements.

Ok got my answer. No need to paint the hats since it's already coated. I never really cared myself.

A lot of the BMW guys insist on painting the hats. With a set of Fuchs it is not really an issue.

Pre- painted rotors from Zimmerman are great!

I once purchased basic rotors for my 944 and within 2 months they were rusted and looked like crap. I had to take off the car and paint. I recently replaced the rotors on the 911 and I got the pre-painted version. I think it was well worth the extra $10 bucks because that's about what spray paint costs these days and it was completely hassle free. Plus, the Zimmerman rotors are painted inside the vents too and so you won't get any rust at all.

Rusted rotors might not be as noticeable on the 911 as it was on my 944 due to different wheels but you will still see it and it looks like Sheit - even though it's just surface rust.

too bad that original Zimmerman gray paint comes off so easily with brake parts cleaner.

I found that gray cold galvanizing paint like LPS is fantastic for painting rotors and mufflers. Once the heat cures it, the stuff is super durable.

Paint doesn't transmit heat anywhere near as well as bare metal. Even bare metal with some surface rust. Why would you want to insulate your rotors for vanity?
It may not make much difference but doing a bunch of little things adds up to a big thing.

Eff it. Media blast and paint with high temp 2 stage just to get under some skin here.

Also, I have also heard the term hats and rotors associate with floating rotors. You have Zimmerman rotors. I have Zimmerman rotors. I ain't got no hats. I got a rotor. What do you have?

The swept surfaces have no paint. And the parts that are painted still do a good job of dissipating heat. Since there really is no downside, painting the hats (or getting the kind that are already painted) is a nice way to not have to see surface rust.

People still call the unswept part of the rotor the "hat" and the swept part the "rotor".

No, it's not technically correct.

Here's My 944 Rotors:

Brand New Rotors after 2 Months:

Painting project begins:

Prep:

Painted, following the factory colors (i.e., 1st paint with primer, then mist with a touch of silver):

Finished:

5 years later, the rotor hats look as good as new. I don't care what anyone else says, I don't want rusted rotor hats on a car that I own. Call me vain but there is a reason my cars all look nice.

Miscreants.

Pieholio will stand down, though.

They do make paint (black) that dissipates heat better than bare metal.

Seems a bit silliy to worry about though. Any paint looks better than rust.

Paint them or buy the coated rotors. Rust looks terrible regardless of the condition of the car.
