How does 3.2L fuel return line work?
I was checking to see if there is something wrong with my fuel return line and I was told I should be able to blow air into this tube from the engine bay and make bubbles in the tank. I tried this and it did not work. I disconnected the line from the tank to the body and I was able to blow air into it. After awhile, the tube stopped passing air and it wanted to push fuel back out of the the return line into my mouth. If the tank is vented to the open air, why does it seem like I am filling a bladder? If I let the fuel flow through the line, it eventually stops and I can again blow air and make a bubbling sound in the tank. Doesn't this return line just dump the fuel back into the tank?

Yes, the return line just returns fuel to the tank. The pump applies more fuel than is needed. The pressure regulator regulates the amount of fuel needed to maintain the proper operating pressure. Any excess is returned to the tank.
Was the gas cap tightened? When the system is buttoned up it should relatively airtight. bobby |

I had the cap off and the fuel level sender out.

One trick is to hook up the system back up and then run the pump. WIth the gas cap off, listen for bubbles inside of your tank.

Any other comments? Does the return hose connection on the outside of the tank have a tube on the inside directing the return flow or does it simply end inside the tank? Does anyone have their tank out to verify this? I am really perplexed by this problem.
