On a 1991 Kawasaki ZX-11 , 155 MPH with one gear and 2000
rpm left.

In a 1979 Pontiac Trams Am, with the 6.6 L engine, 130mph.

masraum 11-14-2002 10:05 PM

redline 5th gear ~150 '88 targa top on with a Honda S2000 right behind me.

once went about 5800 rpm in 5th with the top off then let off because I didn't know what was on the other side of the hill. That was scary, kept waiting to hear the sound of a giant cork and watch the rear window fly off into the sunset, but it held.

115 in a '65 Impala, '70 Skylark, 92 Dodge Shadow.

RatBoy4 11-14-2002 10:32 PM

Been driving the 911 for 4 months, only up to about 110 on I680.

dd74 11-14-2002 10:33 PM

Years ago, I did 75 mph on a Colnago SL frame downhill from Pepperdine University on Pacific Coast Highway. I drafted a speeding dump truck, and POW! Passed him and everyone else.

Didn't need a Porsche back then when I had legs like that.

Adam 11-15-2002 12:09 AM

Well, I've only really had the 2.7 upto around 120mph. It had more to go, but our Police are very efficient, so I quit while I was ahead.

The 3.2, I'm sure would do 140+

dmj 11-15-2002 03:21 AM

I have maxed out my 911 SC -80 a few times with different shocks, torsion bars, etc. It can reach approximately 140 mph. (228 km/h).

:D :D

(I usually try to piss-off my old school-buddy who's now a Viggen-driver. He barely gets to boom, and when he does (reheat & all) he usualy RTB's in 10 mins beacuse of low fuel.)

I met a old italian zipper-driver once who did M2.3, but he said it wasn't very healthy

Me...never drove my 930 faster than 135 mph, dunno why...it feels very "comunicative" with ligth front and direct steering at high speeds, i just feel nervos. Did 149 mph indicated in my old SAAB 9000T tough...it was probably much more dangerous than P-car but soft suspension tricks you into thinking it's not...

arrivederci 11-15-2002 07:54 AM

I was going to refrain from posting this...but what the hell.

Buried the speedo on the 930 (indicated over 170 mph). Running 0.8 bar, and seemed to have more in it. Occurred on a clear divided 3 lane straightaway early on a Sunday morning.

0-175mph in 58 seconds. Got it on film. Got an extra minute? Come over and I'll show it to ya.

SC is gear limited to 140mph at redline in 5th.

Turn that into a Quicktime or MPEG!

targa911man 11-15-2002 08:12 AM

Warp factor 4 on blotter in the 60's.

Dantilla 11-15-2002 08:26 AM

Redline in 4th gear in my old 944 turbo was 140. Did that through turn 1 at SIR, but I cannot confirm or deny the rumors of similar speeds on public roads, such as highway 410 East of Chinook Pass.

sammyg2 11-15-2002 08:47 AM

105 MPH, 67 VW bug
132 MPH 69 GTX 440 (way scary)
125 MPH Stevens flatbottom (blown hemi, also scary)
135 MPH comp. Hydro
125 MPH 914 V-8 (indicated speed, had lots of pedal left)
110 MPH 911 SC (too old now I guess)

NOTE: at all times these speeds were obtained on closed roads under controlled situations by professional stunt drivers, do not try this at home :-)

PS they tell me that the earth is travelling through space at something like 25,000 MPH does that count?

PORSHIN 11-15-2002 09:49 AM

It's (the Earth) got a fairly smooth ride for 25,000 mph doesn't it?

kristian85 11-15-2002 09:57 AM

Yes, the earth rides on a highly complex vacuum-gravity system containing several large spheres without mechanical contact. Pretty neat.

RickC 11-15-2002 10:37 AM

145 Indicated - 87 Porsche 911
135 Indicated - 88 Yamaha FZ 600
130 Indicated - 81 Triumph TR-8 Conv.
112 Indicated - 84 VW GTI
110 Indicated - 74 Fiat 124 Spider
82 Indicated - 72 Rusted VW Bug
54 Indicated - Cannondale R700 Triathlon Bike

The 82 in the bug was by far the scariest. It was during that ride that the accelerator pedal broke loose from the rusted floorpan!

jhugh 11-15-2002 11:04 AM

140 mph at redline on my modded Ducati 900ss IN 4TH GEAR (two more gears to go).

But I never redlined those higher gears. Put the bike down a couple times and decided I was much too stupid to ride a sport bike. Sold it. Bought the 911.

Ove 11-15-2002 06:21 PM

So far 220km/h (135mph) with the 911, but it will do more.

Remember: if you go faster you will go from point A to point B in less time, ie you will "save" time.

Imagine two friends driving the same distance every day.
One drives well below the speed limit, the other one drives the speed limit (being politically correct here, not sure why).
Let's say the faster guy saves one minute a day.
That's around 30 minutes or 1/2 hour a month.
That's 6 hours a year.
6 hours!

Too bad we don't have an account to store all those minutes and seconds we save by going, well, not so slow :D
We have to write them down to remember exactly how much it is!

I'm gonna use my saved up time to drive my 911.
Fast, so I can save more time.
Then use the time I save to drive the 911.
Faster, so I can save even more time.
More time to drive the 911 means going further, and I'll try to be faster... FASTER... F A S T E R !!
Speed is time.
Time is money.
Money?
This is just getting better and better.:D :D :D

HawgRyder 11-15-2002 07:04 PM

On the ground....have my certificate to the 200mph club (Bonneville...streamliner).
In the air...one ride only at max speed....from Edmonton alberta to Farnborough England in 1 hr and 32 mins.
If you compute the polar route...it works out to about 3400 miles....ride was in a Blackbird...not sure of the speed....instruments in the back are not for flight monitoring.

PORSHIN 11-15-2002 07:59 PM

In reference to 911777's post which concluded with "Time is money". I would venture to extend this theory with the following: More time is more money! More money means faster Porsche! Faster Porsche means more saved time, more 911 driving, and more money!....
I really need to apply this theory! Maybe I could get a research grant...

I'm ok now.
