non-barn find '82 sc value?

If only this car had spent its last 9-1/2 years in a barn instead of outside in a driveway.

The owner says that it just died when he was driving, and he had it towed home where it remains -- exposed to the weather. Back then, he said it would start with starter fluid, but he didn't pursue any fixes. It was soon after Hurricane Katrina, and other issues were more pressing. Now he's trying to decide what to do with it -- sell it, fix it or part it out. He's the original owner. It has upgraded headlamps and oil cooler, but no chain tensioner upgrade. It should have had a whale tail, but he requested straight deck lid. It has some rust, but I didn't see any in the floorboard.

Prior to its dying, his mechanic said it sounded like he had a broken head stud, but he had just spent $5K on the engine and wasn't ready to put more in.

Any idea what it might be worth y'all?

Let me guess - he's asking $20,000.

Hate to see cars left to rot...

4-5k for a quick sale 30k to rebuild it. What a shame seen better looking cars on the sad and abandoned thread.

Every part of that car except the gauges is just hammered, and a Targa to boot.

Part it out in my opinion. A lot of other cars could be saved!

I'd buy it. I need a few things and sell off the rest. Sent email.

Totally savable. Lots of folks have started with way less and built a nice car. Once that interior is out and the body scrubbed down, it'll probably look like it has a future. How are the floors?

Completely restorable.
Value depends on mileage and other factors, but in the 7-15 range if I had to guess. Plus it's a Targa- big bonus.

A bit confused on Targa vs coupe values. Which is preferred and worth more?

Coupes were more desirable for a long time, but the gap has narrowed considerably lately. Any aircooled 911 is hot now. personal preference.

I bought a targa because it was the right deal at the right time. I love mine. I think coupes are popular here on this forum, because there is a real go-fast/performance bent to Pelicans. I checked Hagerty's and targas seem to be edging out the non-Weissach (whatever that was) coupe… https://www.hagerty.com/price-guide/1982-Porsche-911
