400k miles, yea!
![]() ![]() Original paint, original unopened engine with the same valve guides and fuel injectors it left the factory with. Runs great, looks great, idles rock steady. Burns a quart of oil every 500 miles but doesn't smoke other than the occasional puff at startup (only if there are people standing around). Sorry for the self-gratifying post, just needed to celebrate a little. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 400k miles |

Color me green.
It's amazing how a well cared for and regularly driven car will hold up.

Congrats Chuck, Wow, how the Gainesville skyline has changed, Gators must be doing really well
![]() I use to drive up in my white 87 all the time to visit with Gatormotorsports (check them out, 2nd O/A in the world with a beautiful car), wish I would have seen you around, but he just graduated. But please tell us your secrets....and things like oil change schedule, typical oil temps, mods, still have the CAT?

At $9 a quart that's only $7200 in oil burned.

I knew the owner of a machine shop who never changed his oil he said it was cheaper for him to rebuild his engines than buy the oil. They lasted a long time though around 100k

Just incredible! Wonder if my uncle's '99 Carrera can do that?
Amazing how much Porsche changed in the span of only 10 years. |

99% of the oil changes have been with regular Castrol GTX... a few Mobil-1 changes around track days. Every 3k miles until 300k, then every 5k miles. Oil change number 120 will happen tomorrow. I've had it since '92, put almost all these miles on myself.
Just a few mods, SSI+M&K 2:1, autothority MAF with my own software changes. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga |

That is an impressive feat, and a testament to the engineering and quality of components put into these cars.
Congrats!

Fantastic, I love to see 200+ k mile sports cars. Times two is even better. I think 400k is more miles than I have driven in the 24 years I have had a license.
Your probably going to have to do a top end in couple hundred k miles or so though!

What would really be amazing is if the original odometer held up for 400K ...

Sees redline occasionally when I'm within 100 miles of my house :-) Regarding the odometer - my gears broke twice in the first 100k miles. Fixed them right away both times. Then I never touched the reset button ever again, and they have been trouble free the last 300k. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga |
