Proper way to warm up an SC engine?

I've been letting my rev at 2,000-2,100 RPM for about five minutes, then while driving, I slowly ease down the hand throttle until it operates smoothly. Is this correct or incorrect? Do others use another process?

I start the car, idle for about 30 seconds and pull away. I keep the RPM's down to about 3,000 - 3,500 until it hits the first tick on the temp guage.

What are you doing with a hand throttle on a SC motor?

EDIT: I noticed you are also from So Cal. I would imagine that those in the colder (read snow) parts of the world may benefit from a longer initial warm up.

ditto that. Fire up, as soon as the idle stabilizes, pull out and drive easy. When full hot then have at it with the throttle.
Excessive cold idling is hard on the motor, minimize your cold start time and drive.

Anyways, I start the car, put my seatbelt on, check the mirrors and drive off, taking it easy until warm. From start up until pulling away is probably around 10 seconds.

Idling for 5 minutes before taking off is excessive and a waste of time, IMO.

My engine's a transplant into a 1974, which originally had a 2.7 with a manual choke (hand throttle). Got rid of the smog equip and other electronic/computerized stuff when the motor was installed.

Agree w/ the others. What, you don't believe in warming up the transmission, CV joints, etc.?? You're wasting fuel and polluting the environment, if the engine is running the car should be going somewhere. The recommended procedure is to start the car and drive easy until everything is warmed up, they warm up just fine while moving. This especially goes for -20deg. weather, (I am a native Minnesotan).

my sis lived in germany for a while. big tickets for warming up. start it and drive easy. ps i cheat with block heaters. ha

Porsche advises against warming up before driving. Bad for the engine. It will among other things cause carbon build-up in combustion chambers.

Got in, drove easy, got it warm, drove a little harder. Then got stuck in traffic with all the other idle polluters.
