Poll: How do you use your 911?
Three years ago when my little car found me, I expected to be a weekend, sunny day driver. Well, I love driving it so much that it is pretty much my daily driver ... to work, errands, etc. As fun now as the day it arrived, actually more so with all the little 'improvements' (and 211 RWHP!).
So, here's the poll: Is your car a daily driver, occasional driver, or 'garage queen'? Thought this would be a fun one for everyone. |
Poll incomplete:
4: An awesome table/shelf used to hold things off the floor in the garage. |

HA! Mine has a Ducati parked next to it too! (I have a feeling my "joke" of a fourth option would pull 25% of the responses if it were actually listed. Life gets in the way of so much fun! ;)

I have had a few Ducs over the years ... Always parked next to my pcars...
Ducs and pcars just go together.. MattR |

I answered daily driver, because I drive my targa more than just occasionally - but I have a practical car, too, when AC, hauling, or passenger capacity is called for. Like many of us, I also have a second 911 project, which I can't bring myself to call a shelf in my garage - I like to think of it as more a shrine to my ambitions as mechanic and restorer. :D

Mrs. Noah also finds the 930 tea tray the perfect place to store Costco-size purchases of paper towels and TP.

Yea while I suggested the "Porsche semi permanent garage storage system", I'd hate to assign my car to that category. In reality, it doesn't really fit that definition, but rather a subset: "Porsche movable in the way storage", where the car gets pushed or pulled in and out and around as higher priorities dictate. Sad state of affairs. But life gets in the way.

Happens to me all the time, I draw the line at the Gatorade and water bottles from Costco.....normally just paper towels and such.... MattR |
DD in season, stored out of season.
|
My car is essentially a retired DE car that now fits into the "occasional driver" category.
|
5. Fair weather daily driver. When it's not raining heavily or salt on the road, I drive it everywhere to do everything.
|
I use it as a reason to post in this forum.
|
One as a garage queen (3.2), but when out...full tank and full throttle
The other any excuse to drive it other then DD, get a gallon of milk, pick up take out, date night...but always get it to full operating temp, clean and cover it. Both are therapeutic and have let me cut down on my scotch intake |
Daily for me. I've tried to keep more "appliance type cars", and use the Porsche as an occasional driver, but I can't put it down. I feel that if I don't drive it, it doesn't exist.
|
I selected occasional driver, but in reality it usually is employed to keep my jack stands stable.

Daily driver available (although not driven daily since semi retirement) for 3 seasons, and garage stored 1 season.
|
Sometimes I just sit in mine....just sit.

My wife drives our 911 daily for work and apparently we live in Australia. No idea why that picture posted upside down. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1440885640.jpg

World's best DD. No garage so it's rough and ready all the time!
|
Because you are in the land down under, and to us, thats upside down. It's a feature of the forum. Wayne worked hard on it!

Best daily driver EVER! Used for everything from going to work to hauling building materials, sports equipment (years of coaching), band instruments, you name it. And even though I am fortunate enough to drive it everyday, I still am quick to volunteer to go the store for that last minute ingredient, just for another excuse to get in it and go (my wife just thinks I am a great guy... don't tell her my secret ).

Primarily my car was used as a DE toy and now that it is just about done with the restoration, I plan on driving my car more just to drive it around. During the winter, my wife and I would use my car to hide the kids Christmas gifts. We knew that the kids would not pull the cover off my car in the garage and go rummaging through it sneaking around trying to find out what Santa is bringing them.
|
The more I drive it the better it goes. I tend to drive it here there and everywhere for a few days then not touch it for a week.
|
As often as possiblehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1440920619.jpg
|
In summer I'm opposite man; 911 during weekdays for everything and truck on weekends for lake/boat haul duty. In the winter maily truck but the car still gets out on nice days (relative term).
|
I hate to admit it, but this year it has become the garage queen of all time and, unfortunately, not in my garage, rather the mechanic's!! I'll bet I haven't put 25 miles on it all summer. That just shouldn't be. But I've bored you incessantly about my alternator/Voltage regulator woes. I think we've fixed them now and the mechanic is on to a couple of other "must dos". :(

Mine now;
75% AutoX 25% DE 25% Grocery getter From 1978 to 2008 DD... |
I've owned mine for 12+ years
Nice weather cruises and weekend fun car. I compete in as many Autocrosses as possible during the Summer months with my son co-driving.
|
1969 911E Daily driver 3-4 times per week seasonal dependent here in DC.
Also, when too hot I weaken and drive the Range Rover for better A/C http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1440957896.jpg |
I find I do less driving and more tinkering with it than anything.
|
Mine did duty as #4 for a few years and now as weekend/fun car - country drives and some trips. My commute to work is very short and I don't even get the oil near warm - no point in driving it like that. I will drive to work once in while when I know I get to take it out on a decent drive afterward.
|
Daily driver and half a dozen or so track days a year for mine, sits outside covered so she is a little rough. A few shots from my trip to the Shot Show in Vegas last January....ran like a champ!!

I drive it only on non-rain/snow days. I've found the car to have absolutely no redeeming qualities in the rain. Interior leaks a bit and I'm just too aggressive in it to have fun driving in the rain/damp roads.

6? Occasional driver ... weekend drives in any weather, car shows & track days
|
I find this laughable that only 2.56% of us tell the truth!!! :D
