Looks like a 1980 3.0 litre from a USA/Canada 911 SC.

According to the 'Porsche Family Tree' book that engine Serial Number belongs to a 1970 914/6; 110HP @ 5800 rpm.

Hope this helps.

are you sure it's 640 .. . and not 64D. . .?

64D0830 would make it a 1982 US spec 3.0.

Go with Toms answer. . .my book may be missing 1980 info.

There should be another number just forward approx. 3 inches and on a horizontal surface. Look closely, use a bright flashlight, its small and hard to locate. They are a bit smaller than the ones you found on the vertical surface. Should be something like "930/03" in that format.

It may be a "d", I checked it late last night in my garage with a light as best I could. Bought the car with the impression it was a 3 litre , (thats what the owner, a movie studio, told me) the guy did not know much about Porsches though, didn't even know how to open the gas tank,, Just came from stuttgardt southwest, his impression was a 79 to 83 3 litre, had me worried about the 2 litre part for a minute though, although it would be awful strong for a 2 litre and it also has the late model injection on it. Thanks.

PS, bought the car for 8,800 what do you think?

Kurt, Kurt ... there weren't any 1969 914's! First were '70 models built in the fall of 1969! They were the entry-level replacements for the 912 ...
