Throttle linkage fouling engine tin

Hi All,

I have my CIS out and I'm cleaning things up. I've noticed that the throttle linkage is fouling on the hole in the engine tin so I doubt I was getting full throttle.

Anyone dealt with this? I guess I could just make the hole a little bigger. I'll check the next part of the linkage on the side of the trans before I do something like that.

Is it possible to adjust the engine tin with the motor in the car so the hole lines up properly?

Thanks for all your advice as always.

G.

Check the play in the console on top of the engine in the picture. The small bar that connects the 2 bars to the throttle has 2 nylon bushings that may well be worn to nothing, giving you side movement and loss of throttle response.

Look at this page for the Weltmeister Engine Bellcrank Bushings. You need two:

Porsche 911 (1974-1989) - Cables & Controls - Page 1

These should last a lifetime.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

Thanks for the tip tirwin.

Upon closer inspection it looks like a PO has installed the bronze bushings already. They look to be metal not plastic. There is a tiny amount of play but I suspect that would be normal.

It seems unlikely that the engine tin could be on crooked so I suspect the extension arm coming from the trans bell crank or the bell crank at the trans itself might be bent. I can move the linkage rod outward with my finger from the engine plate crank and it springs back when I let go. I'll take the wheel off tomorrow, have a look and report back.

Just to close this thread in a good place I disassembled the throttle bracket on the engine and checked the bushings. They were in quite good condition. I removed the push rod from the gearbox and it was bent quite a bit. I straightened it up and now it clears the tin nicely. Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated.
