				Rear view mirror glue

My one year old grandson loves to drive my 76- 911 and while doing so last week he pulled off the rear view mirror. Any suggestions on the type of adhesive to use to reattach it? It appears to be one single unit, unlike the modern mirrors with a detachable button mount. thanks

I would bet it has two parts: the mirror, and a detachable silver button that glues to the glass. You might post a picture, but there should be a release mechanism to separate the parts. Permatex makes a rear view mirror adhesive that I got at my FLAPS. Good luck, Dave

A '76 should have the rear view mirror that uses the adhesive pad to adhere to the windshield. (unless it's been replaced with a later model) Get the black or dark grey pad as the white ones are really noticeable from the outside. Mark the location, on the outside of the windshield, and press the adhere. Tony

Good information to have. My one year old grandson also loves to "drive" the 76 911S targa! Ha! | ||

I'm sure superglue would work. However, you may not get it off if you have to replace the windshield. You can purchase adhesive at the auto parts store for rear view mirrors.

I have the old trapezoid shaped glue on style on my car. Superglue let go in the sun. I used a piece of 3m I-phone glass adhesive on it 4 years ago and it hasn't moved. Razor blade will remove it. For the old style the double sided adhesive pads Tony mentioned earlier is the way to go.

We have to teach them while they're young. He'll be driving me around in a few more years!

Glass shops around here would glue it back on for no charge, you might give one a call and ask.

I had a glass shop install mine and it fell off the next day. They forgot to remove the remnants of the old glue pad that fits into the recess of the mount. Sierra Madre sells the darker color pads. Tony

Go to your local FLAPS. Get the black or gray 3M VHB tape. Cut two strips and place on mirror. Then stick to clean windshield. Won't come off. The liquid adhesive just do not work well. My son did the same thing a few times before I found the right stuff. Thanks to a good friend for showing me the tip.
