Dansk Muffler Mod Question
Hi all, I have an '87 Carrera with stock everything including cat but I'm fitting an early rear bumper that seems to be complicating things somewhat in my search for a new muffler.
I'm hearing that M&K mufflers won't fit with early bumpers, so now I'm looking at buying a single in/single out Dansk muffler, cutting the tailpipe off and welding it up, and then welding two 50mm dual center pipes RS style on. The question is can you just weld two new pipes onto the muffler without affecting the baffling / effectiveness / muffler performance etc? And in doing so am I risking it being very loud with the new twin center pipes? Not understanding the internals of mufflers, is this sensible or is there a single in/RS style dual out that would bolt right on to save modifying ? Thanks in advance |

I think the way the internal plumbing works, it won't exactly be that simplistic. There are some pics on here of the internals.

i just got done modding a 2 in 1 out,to a 2n2 set up ,cut off drivers side exhaust tip, then took my drill out with a new hole saw bit a made 2 2.5inch holes, then go to local auto zone bought a piece of 2.5x11 length cut that down i think to 5 inch length, then had a buddy weld it up the conversion cost about 35 bucks sounds good, and has the 911st look i wanted ,i'll post a pic soon

Sure, it'll make noise, but I don't think it aids performance if that's what you're after without dealing with the internals.

Good work. Looks/sounds good to my eye/ear. Koni shock tubes reportedly work well as the tail pipes too.

That sounds great. Anyone got sound clips or video of a 1in that's been modded to RS style twin pipes (50mm or similar) with stock cat and heat exchangers?

Thanks Dave yes I've seen that diagram and this is exactly the mod I'm having done now. My car already has a twin pipe mod but it sounds like a power boat so I was hoping someone with the RS dual 50mm center pipes mod on a 1in might be able to give some idea of sound.
