Turned a Small Mis-Hap into a complete Color Change Re-Paint!

I haven't posted for awhile, because I was too upset.

I was second in line at the bank drive through, when the guy in front of me decided to leave, and threw it in reverse and floored it! I didn't even have time to hit the horn. Resulting in this..

So, I took the insurance check, and decided to take the opportunity to get a complete re-paint. I've aaaaalllllwaaayyyyyyss wanted Chiffon White!

Now I'm happy. I think it turned out well.

Hmm. Was thinking the same thing.

Oddly enough, I'm still kicking around the thought of a color change too, but AWAY from chiffon in my case...

Car looks great white. My car is being prepped for paint now, I'm probably going Grand Prix white. Funny how you have your mind made up and when the time comes you start second guessing yourself. Is anyone ever really 100% happy with their color choice? Tim

I love the colour my car is, I just wish when we did it we'd pulled it further apart and gotten all of the color, a complete strip and change, if I were to do it again I would probably keep the original signal green, not because I like the color but just because whenever I find pieces of it that didn't get painted (Frunk, engine bay, sometime underneath) I get a little sad...

GIVE ME YOUR BUMPERS.

Give them to me. Give them now. Gimme gimme.

OK, what bumpers are they, because they are SEXY. Or did you eventually make bellow replacement panels like you were thinking about several years ago?

How much did you get from the insurance company? I'm surprised you could repair the damage and get a whole (presumably good) paint job out of it.

Curious on this as well now that I am pretty much mechanically sorted out.

Terry and Mike, I'm glad you noticed the bumpers. Yes, I've been whining about those bellows for years now. If the car was black they wouldn't bug me so much.
I took the car to a secret one man hot-rod specialist body and paint guy, who hand formed steel panels to replace the bellows, and welded them in. There are still slight overlap gaps just incase the bumper gets bumped. It was not cheap and it took forever to get done.

Tim, I am completely happy with the color! I've wanted that color since 82 or 84, whenever they first came out.

Felipe, the tires are BFG G-force, 215/55/16 front and 245/50/16 rear on 7 and 9 X 16 Euromeisters that I stripped and polished.

Otter & Ayles, I got about $4300 from the other guys insurance, so that paid for a good portion of the repaint and bodywork, but not all. We replaced the hood, and upgraded to H4s (with a relay) and of course, the bumpers. So I added some cash to the project.

That seems like a really reasonable price for a paint job. Thanks for the info.

Those of you that are doing a complete color change - are you gutting the car and stripping down to bare metal inside and out? What does that cost?

In today's market, a full color change done right is going to run north of $20,000.00, while retaining the original color with a bare metal exterior only will run closer to $7,000. Painting is not cheap, and changing the color reduces the value.

My guards red widebody is in as we speak, down to bare metal primarily because paint was so thin when measuring. Going to Grand Prix white? (I think) I don't believe it's necessary to go to bare metal, even with color change if existing foundation is healthy and thick enough. I took completely apart, windows out, doors and fenders off, gas tank out, engine bay cleared for paint. . Im also putting back together. I'm paying 5000.00. He's a friend. I was quoted 12k from another shop for them to do it all. Not sure that helped you? Tim
