Engine not turning over
Ok everyone!
So the latest and greatest of me getting this car started is that tonight I actually had a go at turning the car over. Prior to this I changed the fuel pump this works I've tested it ,I hear it running whilst cranking so I'm sure that's ok. I removed all the spark plugs cleaned them thoroughly ,they needed it, put them back in. Changed the oil filter, put new oil in I only have about 10 liters of premium 98 unleaded gas, wouldn't think that would be a problem This car hasn't been turned over for a long time ,years Is there something I should spray in the engine to give her a kick in the gutts I have taken a video but can't uoad it |

you need to state the year
link did not work for me. your title says "engine not tunring over" but you said you hear the pump run while cranking. does it turn over but will not start or will it not turn over

Did you check ignition for spark at coil or spark plugs

Take a spare plug and pop it on the wire and look for spark while cranking.

..even easier .. pop the lead going from the coil to the centre of the cap and lie it very near a ground, about a 1/8th away .. have someone crank it , it should light up like a christmas tree,
if it does you have strong spark , if not you have your next project.. if you have spark pull your injectors, they should just pull out . although I think 82 has steel injector lines, that's a pain in the arse. the nylon ones are great as you can put them in 6 baby food jars and crank the engine and watch for spray, I think you may have plugged injectors, but first things first

Easy way to test ignition sparks...........
Hi mate,
To test and verify the presence of ignition (spark) in the system, I simply hook up an induction timing light. Remove the FP relay to prevent dumping raw fuel to the combustion chambers during the test. Position the inductive timing light so that you could see it when you turn the ignition switch to START position. You could even test all six (6) spark plugs cables individually very conveniently by yourself. Install the FP relay back when you want the engine to run. And turning the engine using the starter would disperse engine oil inside the engine and partially lubricate the moving parts. But if you have been turning the engine regularly in the past, you not worry to much about it. Tony |
