Anyone in San Diego got working A/C?
Hi all,
![]() I was hoping that one (or more) of you might be in or close to San Diego who has spent the money on having "working" A/C put into their 911. I have a 84 and a wife. She would very much like to have real life working A/C in the car. I have explained that that will take many green backs and to be honest I have no way of knowing until after its all said and done if it is worth it. That's where you guys come in. Can I (Well more importantly can she) come and try your A/C to see if it meets her demands....I mean standards. I'd hate to outlay the cash only to find its not cold enough still. Thanks in advance. |

I have the highest (lowest?) demands for home and auto a/c of anyone I know, and I live in North TexAss and drive a 1987 Turbo year round for both highway and errand useage - my modified a/c system quickly creates a bone chilling cabin even in scorching summer temps. I **** you not.
![]() PS - you and your wife are welcome to travel here and check it out for yourselves . . . especially your wifeypoo!!! ![]() Last edited by Ronnie's.930; 10-19-2015 at 07:11 PM.. |

What is interesting is there are a number of members here that James could fly (super-saver) to his house, bringing a bag o' tools, sleep on the kitchen floor during the passage, get paid well, and get his AC cranking to her standards AND save him a lot of dough. However, we are not quite sure of her standards and expectations. There is a chance she has flying monkeys...... James please expand a bit on the risk profile. ![]() Or find a brother in southern California.

James, pay Bob no mind, as for one thing, he drives a Targa (actually, he LOOKS at a Targa parked forelornly in a corner of his shop), plus he has a thing for flying monkeys (something about corporal punishment

James, all is good. Ronnie and I pick on each other. He is not fisticated, like me.
Just find a local dude for comparison. They are out there. Tell us about your system. Stock? Still running R-12? How bad is it? Is it that bad? Ronnie is in a humid climate that is disgustingly hot. You are not in that humid of a climate. But heat is there Makes a difference. Talk a little. Don't be afraid of Ronnie. He served his mandated Federal institutional time. He has been corrected by professionals. ![]()

Go see the boys at Black Forest. They will surely have a few well apportioned Carreras nearby that will make your wife suitably frigid.
![]() I was in SD yesterday installing fixtures in my kid's beach condo. It was damn muggy and uncomfortable for mid October and at one point it was raining inside my T shirt.

James seems normal. He may not be ready for the full Ronnie.

Now you see that's just the kind of down to earth, solid responses I thought I would receive from a group of people who are smart enough to buy a car whose engine is in the wrong place and designed over 50 years ago.
Guys Im fine with your, now what did my teacher call it...oh that's right "special" ways. I would not have it any other way. To Bob's question the car is bone stock as far as A/C goes. Still got R12 (well some) in the 31 year old lines. Id say its about as bad as "working" A/C could be. Apparently the wife would like to "turn up some place nice without looking like a hot mess" To be honest with you guys I kind of like driving shirtless in a 80's Porsche with a hot Blond, kind of feels so very right in a lot of ways. |

James, definitely a small world, as I hear Bob will ONLY drive his Targuuuu shirtless - pants and underwear-less, too! The brown socks stay on, though!

There are so many guys that know so much here. Most any of them, solo, could help you plow through the basics or help you get fancy. No one wants you to just dump it at a shop and spend $1-$2k for a wimp refresh. They will want you to spend $2k plus for a modified (real) correction or spend $300-500 for a bare bones but proper, bring your system up to snuff, with practical (slightly better than marginal, aka Factory) advice (and stuff). Grab onto Kenny's offer first. Then solicit/dig for, info.

James,
First... we got to qualify a few things: 1) How many cases of Becks do you stock in the frig in the garage? 2) What brand and model barbecue grill you got in the back yard? 3) How many free passes do you have to Coronado and Torrey Pines golf courses?

James, tell your wife that with the right setup she can ride in your 911 and be comfortable in Needles, Ca in summer or even Savannah, GA in August.
I have done it. San Diego is a piece of cake to keep a car cool. The stock system tuned up properly can do it. I had to add two more condensers to get the ultimate performance. You will likely want to replace the hoses with barrier hoses, replace the receiver-dryer and flush the condenser. None is difficult but it is dirty work.
