(Targa) window seal questions
I've wondered about the window seals on my Targa. There are a couple of spots on the lower seal for the rear window where the outer edge of the seal is sort of puckered away from the trim strip beneath it, leaving a small hole (maybe 2-3mm) into whatever space is below it. Is this simply a seal that needs to be replaced? How could it have gotten like this? Is it anything I need to concern myself with? I am thinking of water intrusion over time - for instance, a bad drain in a top well on my Fiat led to non-trivial rust on the floor beneath it after many years)
Also, there is a slight gap between the Targa trim panel and the trim strip below it, with what appears to be a very small hole that rainwater could get into - again, anything to be concerned with? Is it just a trim strip that needs to be re-fit? Finally, there is about 6" worth of dum-dum-like material stuck between the window frame seal and the A-pillar on the driver's door jamb. I am not sure why this is there. My car needs nothing major, but I've been making a list of the little things that I want to take care of or investigate, and this is one of them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

OK, now that I had some free time I spent some time searching and did find a photo of the rear window in without trim, and it looks like the only thing on the other side of those little pinholes are the window channel. That would seem to address one question...

I think you want that rubber seal laying over the painted body to shed water. There are however drain holes under the targa bar cover (water also enters the louvers and needs to drain) so that part doesn't look problematic.
Try to fix the seal you have, because apparently replacing the targa glass for a new seal is harder than rebuilding a 911 engine.
