New here.

Hey all. Bungling my way through my first post. Not real sure of the protocol here so....fire away. I have tough skin. Been lurking for many years here. Bought lots of parts and gained a wealth of knowledge, just never had a need to jump on board. I've been restoring and driving daily, early VWs for ever. My mother left me her 88 911 about 5 years ago just before she died. The car looked good and only had 86K on it so I let it sit. Bad idea. Long story short, I just painted it and had to go through all the mechanics. I'm driving it daily now as of last week. Everything is going good except tid bit things. I may need to ask a few beginner questions if you all don't mind . Thanks!

Junkbone,

Welcome! What an AMAZING gift your ma left you. Glad you are finally enjoying it and the memories of her. As you have no doubt experienced, there is a wealth of knowledge on this board. You probably won't get flamed in the technical forum, no guaranty in the off topic or political forums though! Ask away and you'll get the advice/answers you're seeking.

Oh, lastly - PICS please (of the car!)

Thanks Patz, I really don't remember much after the sticker shock of thirteen some odd quarts and $130.00

Engine warm, running on flat surface. Dip stick under 1/2. As to oil, wait for sales and stock up. I use Valvoline VR1 20/50 racing oil. 4.99 a quart.

No need for synthetic.

Thanks Patz. I'm running Mobile 1 20/50 now, but it's been sitting in the car for three years. No milage, just sitting. I'm gonna put a couple of hundred on it and do an oil change.

Drop the pics onto your desktop. Name them something simple. Use the "click here to upload a Photo". Find the photo after clicking "choose file". Click on the photo name.

Should be easy after that. If using a handheld mobile device, yer on yer own pal.

You are already deep into it! Good that you aren't intimidated by the prospect of working on a Porsche. Welcome!

New Here *revised with new here kind of stuff*

So, my first newby question I'll post here instead of cluttering up the place. My first issue seems to be that my shift light has stopped. It was working after the resto but was out this morning. My only concern is that I know it gets it's info from the computer. The car runs fine though, so I'm needing help troubleshooting. Could just be the bulb and thats ok, any computer worries when the shift light stops? Thanks......Oh, and one more good one. Does anyone happen to know the size of the top, windshield wiper nut?? The last one to go on to hold the arm down. Lost mine and took a guess on 8mm, it threads on about two turns....
