Thumbs up Flaumeister Project Finally Done

I finally finished my Flaumeister Project thanks to all of the information provided by fellow Pelicanites. The muffler is a bit louder than stock but I like the sound. I found that the engine seems to rev quite a bit faster and that I am getting much better performance in the 3000+ RPM range. Thanks again.

Very Nice. Do you have a pict. of the unit off of the car? I want to do something with my exhaust (ground clearance).

Sorry, I don't have any pics off of the car. I mounted the muffler and exhaust outlet pipes in the car first, then I fabricated the inlet pipe after I was satisfied with the position of the muffler and outlets. The muffler fits very nicely and is acutally about 1 inch higher than the engine case, so there is no problem with ground clearance. I'll try and post some pics from under the car later.
Regards
Mike

Nice look!
What type of exhaust tips are those?

I'm considering the Flaumeister conversion on my '86. Surprised that you mentioned that your exhaust is just a little louder than stock. All other posts i've read make it seem like the Flaumeister is LOUD. Any other mods to your exhaust system? eg SSI, Cat-bypass, etc?

Thanks
Mike

Can you give some specifics on the particular Flowmaster unit you used?

Where did you source the tips from?

Thanks,

The flowmaster part number should be 42583 if the rest of the exhaust is stock, that's a single in dual out model.

Sorry... I'm new to the custom exhaust thing... I've always used factory or aftermarket Porsche-specific exhausts.

I've gotta a few questions...

What flanges are you buying (vendor, part number), to mate with your heat exchangers or headers?

In other words, I've found the mufflers, j-pipes, tips, etc, but what about the flanges to connect the HE to the muffler?

Thanks for your input and suggestions.

Regards,

K

Here is the setup:
1. Stock heat exchangers without the heater boxes: on advice that the 3.2L would run better with small diameter primary tubes and a free flowing muffler.
2. Stock cat that has been gutted.
3. 2.5" steel tubing from cat to Flowmaster 42583 from Sumitt racing. http://www.summitracing.com $80.00 delivered
4. 2.5" steel tubing to two stainless steel oval tips. Sorry I can't remember where I got the tips, but I got them about 2 years ago when I first contemplated using a Flowmaster. I think I got them on E-Bay.
5. Modified stock muffler bracket, turned upside down with two additional supports welded onto it.

The hardest part of the project was fabricating the cat to muffler pipe since it is a compund angle piece. The two outlets are just straight pipes to 90 degree elbows with the tips welded on.

I say that this muffler is a bit louder than the stock. But then again I havn't had the stock one on for a while, because I had a B&B single in Dual out on the car. I couldn't stand the resonance on the interior with the B&B. The Flaumeister is probably on the same level of loudness as the B&B on the exterior. On the interior, the Flaumeister has a very small amout of resonance to about 2500 rpm then it dissappears. Highway cruising is very nice. The engine sound is definitely there but is not overpowering. You just can't beat the performance for the price. I paid $600 for the B&B and about $150 total for the Flaumeister. Granted that my setup now is not Stainless, but I don't drive in the rain anyway and can buy 4 setups for the same price. By then I'll probably have a 993 or early 911 (just can see myself in a water cooled 911).

That is the way exhaust SHOULD look on a 911, IMHO.

Nice job.
