B Pillar / Door Lock Post Rust

I bought a car with some rust issues (upon a shady PPI...but I won't get into that). With that being said, I seem to have rust in an uncommon area (or atleast, one that I couldn't find on the forum). The issue is on both sides, where the B Pillar meets the door jamb/door lock post. Is the best way to fix this to replace the entire door jamb (or door lock post, as Porsche seems to call it)?

This is the replacement part I'm considering: Porsche Parts Door Lock Post, Left, 911/912/930 (65-89)

How is the bottom where it joins the rocker panel?

If the rest of the B pillar is fine just find a donor part and replace a piece.

Are You Prepared for Surprises???

I started a project Targa the same way, it ended up needing the lower rocker pieces as well.

widgeon13 is right patch the visible area and enjoy the car.

A quick tip - Check the rocker and B pilar with a paint gauge. Unless your car has original paint, it will have filler over the pickled metal under the new paint. Both Targa's that I have seen with rust in that spot have been reworked as mentioned.

Cheers, Louie

Thanks for the tips. Louie - ya, I imagine there will be quite a few surprises. There isn't any visible rust where it joins the rocker, just up top (and on both sides). I know the car had a cheap respray - I'll check with a paint gauge.

So, consensus would be to just replace the top? Any way to find out if there's rust in the lower rocker area?

Thanks in advance.

Look at the back of the door posts from the rear wheel wells. The tires spray salt/water/etc into that area. Usually they rust from there and by the time you see it in the bottom door jambs where it meets the rockers, it's rusted all the way through. I often see the rear rocker mounts rusted as well.
