A simple exhaust system for 3.6 conversions. Is this decent?
Hey there fellow Pelicans,
I have a question about what I consider a simple exhaust system. Below is a example pic of what I'm thinking about - it's as simple as a set of headers with dual mufflers attached to the headers exiting straight out the back of the car. Granted the vehicle in the pic is not a 911 but you get the idea. For a short period of time I had a 3.6 t/p 911 with a set of Bursch headers into Spintech mufflers. That engine definitely did not seem down on power. Yes it was loud but zero drone. I find drone much more annoying than volume (to an extent). I've been thinking about building another quieter version of this simple system - a set of George's Euro headers into the largest Magnaflow mufflers I can fit. Most likely I would keep the muffler outlets sized to 2" or 2.25" to keep volume down. I'm thinking by using mufflers this size that the overall volume would be tolerable and it should have no drone since there is no crossover. The total cost would probably be right around $1k. So... what do you guys think of this type of exhaust system for 3.6 engines? Am I losing a bunch of low/mid range torque by not having a crossover and proper length secondary pipes? With 18-24" muffler cases and 2" or 2.25" outlets will the volume still be too loud for street use? Thanks for the help! Here's the example pic: ![]() And here's the 911 3.6 car I had for a short time with a similar exhaust system layout. This was too loud for street use but it got me thinking about wanting to use that simple layout. ![]() |
