911 SC sway bar help

'83 SC w a fresh 930-10 euro SSI's etc...but basically stock. Goes very nicely with a tight steering rack and new shocks. Car is lightened to 2500 lbs full tank of fuel.

Time to change out the sway bar bushings/drop links and was wondering if I should go to a bit bigger rear sway bar for flatter cornering.

I do not want to change out the torsion bars...I like the ride/firm but forgiving but would like flatter corning less role.

Presently have the stock 20mm F/18 mm rear.

Street use but some spirited driving...not a track car.

Suggestions/experiences?

Options from a to z exist when you're looking at suspension Mods. Our SC's
Benefit from and upgrade to the carrera 21 / 20 sway bars.
,coupled with the rarb console modification to stiffen the mounts
,especially considering the rubber you're running on the back end.
.Then the sslope starts when you consider going to aftermarket sway bars and bushings, larger torsion bars and improved shocks and struts. The short answer is that just changing the swAybars wont impact/improve your corners that much.waynes 101 projects will point you in the right direction.

Thanks, I have Waynes book and didn't give it a look yet.

Bigger set of Carrera sway bars........

Try the 22 mm/ 21 mm (F/R) sway bars from late Carrera 3.2 for your next suspension upgrade. I have these on my '78 SC and you won't be disappointed.

The OE torsions are Cadillac soft. Great for comfort, but makes for a lot of travel. If you start trying to get roll control out of a big swaybar while keeping the soft torsions, you'll really stress the pretty weak rear swaybar mounts. They like to break. So if you go that route, search this forum for reenforcement options.

Remember, everything needs balance. Not the best idea to change one end of the car without a complimentary change to the other end, or you'll change the behavior of the car near the limits.

You rarely get something for free. If you want better handling, you usually have to give something up in exchange. Better, more performance oriented tires may ride a little stiffer, be a little louder, and wear faster. Stiffening a car may hurt ride quality, or may not depending on your shock valving. Bigger swaybars might get you less roll, at the expense of poorer handling of one wheel bumps due to the greater coupling of the left and right sides.

Personal recommendation? Since you're not going for any times, just enjoy the car as intended. Anything you make "better" is going to make something else "worse."

I upgraded to Tarret sway bars. My left rear mount recently broke. I ordered Elephant Racing mounts.

I've heard the Carrera SB are a solid upgrade for the SC and I think I'll go that route initially....
Thanks for the comments gents.
