Musst have been quite a show when all those BUFFs left Barksdale! 'The Sound of Freedom' rings plenty loud when those guys flock to destinations half-way around the world! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa 1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 4X4 parts hauler

Not as easy as we might think. I doubt the armed terrorists cluster in an exposed spot waiting for Allah to take them. On the other hand, they're probably living in a village along with their parents and kids. Do you propose we nuke them too? Not an easy answer, I'm afraid. Solutions are never this easy. Yeah, they make a wonderful noise! Can't tell when they are leaving though. They fly thru consistent training runs and sneak out a little at a time. Every time a see one of those birds in the sky, I say, I'm glad they are on our side. 50's technology still looks mean! ------------------ Robert Stoll 83 SC 83 944

Unless it's a VERY lucky drop this type of ordnance won't work (albeit loud, flashy, impressive). It'll definitely take a 'cozy' encounter to do the real business. Good luck to the operators!

No such thing as a "lucky drop" with those Cruise Dogs. They can fly to URANUS with pinpoint accuracy. ------------------ Robert Stoll 83 SC 83 944

I would hope that we have had an eye on him for the last 5 yrs or so. We just had to get permission from the U.N. I always thought they should just send in the S.E.A.L.S and he would just not show up for the next new years celebration. But now that there is a stamp of approval on his extermination........well, Let 'er rip, tater chip! ------------------ Robert Stoll 83 SC 83 944

God speaks! http://www.theonion.com/onion3734/god_clarifies_dont_kill.html Pretty funny site. I like the story about explaining the events to your children, and the one about the woman who baked the cake. The terrorists in hell is good, too.

Robert, you seem up on the current air force. Could you give this civvie an opinion on why they decided to retire the F-111? As one guy in Lybia would agree, they could deliver quite a load...not as much as the BUFFs, but quite a load....

No expert here, but I think bang for the buck probably killed it. Operational costs, maintenance, crew etc. verses the B52 with Cruise Missile capability is probably a more economical way to deliver ordinance. ------------------ Robert Stoll 83 SC 83 944

I was pretty sure a week ago that all out war against Afganistan/Pakistan terrorists and governments if necessary was a bad idea. Sadly, I now think it must be done. http://www.usatoday.com/usatonline/20010927/3487485s.htm

Thanks Robert...was always curious. My airline pilot buddy is ex USAF, said of all he flew, he liked the F-111 best. Preferred it over the 100% fighters he flew. He flew F111 when Ronnie was prez, was stationed in England...get the drift?

From USA Today Article...''We give them the knowledge, the Taliban gives them the guns,'' Haq says. ''I, and all my students, will support the Taliban and Osama at all costs. They are the only ones implementing true Islam.'' The two words to "get" are "true Islam". There seems to be two distinct versions of this religion. ------------------ Robert Stoll 83 SC 83 944

....they're probably living in a village along with their parents and kids. Do you propose we nuke them too? I guess they should have considered that possibility prior to killing 6000 parents and kids on US soil. Answer to question: We need to do whatever it takes.

What do you say we pick 10 Afghani villages, then drop a few tons of napalm on them? Will that make everyone happy? Does that provide us with the long term solution? BTW, I'm not sure what the long term solution is.

10? No, but 1,000 maybe. I just don't think any traditional operation carried out there will have any effect. The only option that would have a significant result is to do something completely insane, immoral, unjust, and wrong. Something that we will look upon in shame for hundreds of years, something horrible. It's either that or nothing. After reading the above article, I think it's the only way. I really don't know if that's the right course, but other options seem fruitless and will cost lives.
