TLDR: Bead blast then clear coat.

Originally it was just as it came out of the mold, rough cast, didn't go through the polishing phase of production.
Clear anodized was the original process.

Probably around 8 hours total spread over a month. Taping was worst part for me. I had a local shop do bead blasting, not sure how long it would take to do that part on your own.

I didn't find the taping to be all that hard. I did not go with the rough RSR finish, but had them anodized in the early classic finish instead. The taping job should be the same for either one, though.

Chemically stripped (not blasted):

Masked (tip - use 3M dark blue vinyl trimline masking tape for a sharp line, it is easily stretched and can follow the line nicely):

Hey Arne. Those look good. Where did you have the anodizing done? I have some deep 6s I would like to restore to stock finish and don't really want to wait a year for the pro's to do it.

I had mine done by David Rohrer in Sandy, UT. He works in a shop near Eric Shea (PMB Performance), I suspect they both use the same anodizing shop. Turnaround time for mine was about 3-4 weeks, as I recall. But I did the painting myself, probably saved a week that way.

David hasn't been back to Pelican in close to 18 months, so I don't know if he is still doing wheels. His contact info is on his profile page on the About Me tab, also in the Visitor Messages on my profile.

No, it was a wired on ID tag.

Most don't mention how they keep the lug nut recesses clean. What did you guys do? Throw a coin or lug nut in before you paint?

If you look closely at the picture of the rear wheel I posted above, you can see that two of the lug seats still have a quarter in them. It's a pretty good fit to keep the primer and paint out.
