Automotive vinyl hairline cracks- brand new
I don't tend to have the greatest luck, for those that know my story.
Anyway, the latest in my saga is that I got some dark brown automotive vinyl for my 911, but every eight inches or so, there is a loose line across the vinyl of interspersed tiny cracks in the vinyl. You can only see them in the correct light at viewing angles of about 70 degrees or more. I have covered one RS door panel with it, so when the doors are open, they don't look great. They look fine from straight on. See below. I am assuming I got a bad batch of vinyl. Thoughts? not bad ![]() looking good. ![]() Sunlight. On the right side you can kind of see the vertical lines. ![]() Awww crap... ![]()

hairline cracks
I believe the sheet was folded for a long time ....maybe it can be ironed from its back side.

That is what I thought. Thing is, the entire roll has the same lines in the same rough spacing. I just can't visualize that being due to folding given this it happens every 6 or so inches. You can kind of see four vertical lines of the repeating pattern below the window switches in the second to last photo.

The brown vinyl I bought for my panels has nothing of the sort. I just got mine on today.

That looks really slick Arne. I am going to get in contact with the upholstery shop that ordered me the vinyl.

The vinyl may have been rolled and then stored flat for a long time, causing the cracking to appear at the same interval as it bends around the flattened shape.

Counterclockwise?

Ya. I'd say rolled up and then weight was put on it.
But having said that, was there a cardboard core inside it to stop this from happening?
