How much does it cost to ship seats???

I've got a couple of old Recaro's I'm trying to "donate" to somebody in more need them me (on Ebay right now). I have no idea how or how to ship these puppies (somebody just asked).

Anybody have any ideas? Does UPS take seats?

My SC sportseats came thru UPS or USP. . . I think they both charge a lot more if the weight gets over 40lbs; so, the guy who shipped them got tricky on the packaging. He reclined the seats so the base and the back were lined up. Then came a few layers of bubble-wrap, some cardboard, followed by some shrink-wrap, and a final layer of some black plastic (kinda hefty bag-ish).
The seats showed up at my doorstep looking like a couple of mummies. . . .and like mummies, they were well preserved.

i would ship them greyhound if i were you. i had two seats shipped to me for under $40.00. if the person is near a bus station this is the best way to do it. go to there web page to check out there freight rates.....

Find a couple big boxes. UPS shipped seats to me in DC from NYC for $50.

I just shipped one power sport seat. Cost was just over $30 via UPS ground with $550 in insurance. Be careful if you box them. UPS will only ship a box that is 130 total inches.
I also shipped a pair of seats last year. I took the backs off and shipped the backs in one box and the seat bottoms in another.
For two seats, I would figure on $60 minimum for shipping plus materials....that is unless the bus option is cheaper than UPS.

for large, bulky items, I'd suggest Fedex GROUND (the old RPS). I've found their rates to be quite a bit lower than both USPS and UPS and you can drop off at any Fedex shipping center.

My guess it that a dishpack box or small wardrobe box would do the trick - available at most 'box' stores or uhaul places.

They can get most items cross country in 4-5 days. I just used them to ship a pair of skis I sold on ebay.

For pre 74 seats, the best box is at U-haul. It's the double wall TV/microwave box (they have two sizes). The smaller of the two is fine if you take the seats apart and fit them front to back. You can use the larger 27" box they have for the 65 to 73 seats, just take the headrest off. $7 for the smaller one and $9 for the larger...and yes both boxes will ship UPS just fine....have done it many times in shipping seats to Auto's Intl.

I have shipped a number of sparco and recaro recling type seats in the reclining position in boxes designed for the shipment of guitars. Just slip in some plastic bag and seal box. My seats weighed somewhat less than 30#s each and UPS shipping was reasonable (by weight.) Good luck.

No change.. Greyhound still works great, as does the others..

A lot fewer Greyhound depots these days, though. Many in medium and smaller town have been shuttered.

It depends. All the advice still rings true.

It pays to comparison shop between ups and Fedex. And prepare the shipping label online. Sometimes they each have significant discount codes on their websites. (40% off sometimes).

Wardrobe box from uhaul or Home Depot/Lowe’s and you can typically get 2 seats in 1 box. Depends on the seats whether it makes sense because you might get pst reasonable weight limits.
