No start with Pertronix?
 

Just fitted a 2862 Pertronix onto my Bosch distributor, and a 3ohm coil on my 1970 911T. Now it won't start. Anyone fitted these and had a no start issue, what did you do? Very frustrating!! Cheers

Get rid of the pertonix and put the points back in they last 30,000 miles. Never been a fan of Pertonix many friends say they're crap and I agree.

Agree with Gomezoneill! I built a Datsun Racecar everything new, including new Petronix, we spent several race events and one ruined engine (detonation) due to a junk Pertronix.
We checked the wiring at least 5 times, and it was correct.
Finally out of frustration we replaced it with points and the problem was solved!
I will NEVER EVER EVER use one again!

So...... they say.....Hey Jump off this bridge...It won't hurt......We promise......have you even tried it????? Jumping off the bridge?...Or Pertronix? I've read nothing negative about Pertronix except from hard core points purist's... Some love them some hate them.....I'm going all in...Pertronixs,MSD box and coil.....I'll report how bad it sucks when my car ......Does run worth a damn!!!

Clearly not every Pertronix is defective, but having experienced it, the hard part is diagnosing when it doesn't work

I know others have had similar experiences, so I prefer to keep things simple

5 classics over the years,and its terrific,i always carried points in trunk but never had to use them.You have probably fitted something incorrectly ,so check it out ,depending
where you purchased them from, they will give you advise as well,there are many
forums here on fitting just have to find them,regards.

First, spark at the coil? at the distributor output? Timed correctly?

12 volt bulb between 12v and distributor/pertronix output flashes on/off as you crank the engine?

Given that the latest Bosch points are now a POS, Pertronix becomes a viable alternative given one caveat.

I've seen as much as a 4 degree, cylinder-to-cylinder variation in timing with the Pertronix units so I always check & confirm timing on each & every cylinder so none of them exceeds my targeted total values. Failure to do so may result in one or more cylinders detonating and ruining some P/C's.

Needs more smoke.

I have had very good experience with Pertronix . Had one in my 1973 911 for 8 years. No problems.

Teamed with Daytona Sensors CD1 CD I it works great.

LIkewise here. Pertonix, MSD box, coil and all is well for years now.

Does your car have a CDI? Pertronix is wired differently for a car with CDI.

I work on air cooled 911's for a living I've taken off more pertronix products because of complaints of surging off throttle. One of my best buddies ruined his corvette engine because of detonation also using pertronix.

No need for wise ass remarks on the board either.

A common problem is the magnet is not completely seated on the dizzy shaft- need to ensure its pressed all the way down.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll give it until the Christmas break and try a few more ideas, including an auto electrics friend and if it won't start its coming off. I've lost a lot of faith when it didn't fire up, as I was told it would, first time. I could keep the 3ohm Flamethrower coil with points couldn't I?

Yes, three ohms is the minimum primary resistance for use with points. Bosch designed them to carry four amps, so 12V (nominal) divided by three ohms gives you four amps. Any more current and you will burn the points.

Why don't you post here a drawing of how you wired the pertronix and a few photos, they are pretty easy to install but there are opportunities for a mistake now and then when they don't work.

Sorry I was a little wound up that night...I just got my pertronix that night also and was hating the fact that I may have wasted my money. Not installed yet but I will update when I do with results.

With my 10,000 posts I have only apologized a couple thousand times. Don't sweat it.

I do see merit in wise-ass remarks when comments indicate you will blow an engine if you use this part. I see that as horse crap.
